Nicole Scherzinger Biography
Pussy Cat Doll Nicole Scherzinger's looks are as exotic as her name. Nicole Prescovia Elikolani Valiente Scherzinger was born on 29th June 1978 in Honolulu, Hawaii.
She describes herself as a Filipino-Russian Hawaiian as her father Alfonso Valiente was of Filipino descent and her mother Rosemary is Hawaiian of Russian descent. Her mother was 18 when she was born, but her parents separated when she was a baby, and she takes her name from her stepfather, Gary Scherzinger.
When she was 6-years-old the family moved to Louisville, Kentucky and although there was little money, her mother supported her ambition to go into show business. She says she owes everything to Rosemary and would not be where she is today without her.
As a teenager she was the first runner-up at the 1996 Kentucky State Fair's Coca Cola Talent Classical Contest, and she majored in acting and musical theatre at Wright State University. Whilst there she played Velma Kelly in "Chicago" and Julie Le Verne in "Showboat."
In 1999 she put her studies on hold to sing backing vocals for the 1990 rock band "Days of the New," and two years later she competed in the premier season of WB's TV show "Popstars" and won a place in the girl group "Eden's Crush."
She has since said that being in that group was more like being in Hell than the Garden of Eden.
"I was in the band with 5 other girls, and every day it was torture for me," she said. "We were on television all the time and the atmosphere was awful. Every day I cried my eyes out. The band was meant to be fun and frivolous, but in reality it was miserable."
After she left the group she made a few promotion solos under the stage name Nicole Kea, including covering "Breakfast in Bed" for the soundtrack "50 1st Dates" in 2003. She later worked with Yoshiki from the Japanese rock band X Japan on his Violet UK project and she also sang the English version of "I'll be Your Love" like with the Tokyo Symphonic Orchestra.
In May 2003 she made the move which was set to change her life forever, she joined the burlesque group "Pussycat Dolls". Although she found it challenging to front the group, it was so different to "Eden's Crush."
"Every girl has something different to bring and add to the success of the group," she said. Their debut album reached number 5 on the Billboard 200, and their first single, "Don't Cha" reached number 1 in multiple countries and was number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.
She has also hit the headlines for her romantic liaisons. After she split with actor Talan Torriero in 2007 following a two year relationship, she began dating Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton. They split up at the beginning of 2010, but their separation only lasted six weeks and she was in Abu Dhabi to support her boyfriend on November 14th 2010.
She provided a shoulder to cry on when he finished 4th and failed to win the World Championship. The photographs show her looking more upset than he was.
She was a great success when Simon Cowell invited her to be a guest judge for the Manchester auditions whilst Dannii Minogue was on maternity leave, and she left her mark on the show. It was her suggestion that the age range of the boys' and girls' categories should be raised to 28 to make it a better competition.
Although she has made minor appearances as an actress, she is about to launch her movie career with a cameo role in "Men in Black 3" playing an evil character called Lily. The film is due to be released in 2012.
