Kate Middleton (Catherine Elizabeth) Biography
The engagement that we have all anticipated for so long has finally been announced and we have another Royal Wedding to look forward to.
This time it is between the future King of England Prince William, eldest son of the iconic Princess Diana and commoner Kate Middleton. The couple first met 10 years ago at the University of St Andrews and despite a short break in 2007 have been together ever since.
A thoroughly modern couple they share a cottage in Anglesey near the RAF base where her husband-to-be works as a Search and Rescue Pilot.
It was while they were on a private holiday at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya in October that Prince Williams proposed, giving her his late mother's £28,000 sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
The engagement was not officially announced until November 16th 2010 and at their first interview she admitted the proposal had come as a complete surprise. He said he had carried the ring in his rucksack for three days and would have been in big trouble if he had lost it.
But who is the beautiful girl who has captured the heart of a future King?
Catherine Elizabeth Middleton was born on January 9th 1982 to former air hostess Carole Elizabeth and Michael Francis Middleton, a flight dispatcher with British Airways. She has two younger siblings, a sister Philippa Charlotte and a brother James William.
In 1987 the Middletons founded their own mail order company supplying party decorations and other items which has since made them millionaires.
Kate was brought up in Buckleberry where she went to St Andrews School before moving on to Marlborough College. She graduated from university with a 2.1 (Hons) degree in History of Art.
She worked for a year in 2006 as assistant accessories buyer with the clothing chain Jigsaw but quit in 2007 to become a professional photographer.
As soon as the media heard about the Royal relationship at St Andrews, she became the target for photographers. It got so bad they were waiting for her outside her flat at 2.30am when she returned from a nightclub and her lawyer had to write to the Press Complaints Commission on her behalf.
The couple want to be involved in their own wedding plans and it has been announced the marriage will take place in London in the spring or summer 2011.
The engagement has captured the attention of media all over the world and American television have sent a reporter to the UK to visit all the haunts where the couple have been.
She has become a fashion icon and there is great speculation which designer she will choose for her dress but, it is assumed she will choose one from Great Britain.
Asked how she would cope with the pressure of Royal life she admitted she did not know the ropes but she was willing to learn.
This couple will have all the advantages Princess Diana did not have when she married her future father-in-law. Kate is 10 years older than the "People's Princess" and the couple have been together for 10 years so really know each other and they are obviously very much in love.
They will start married life away from prying eyes in their Welsh cottage while her husband continues to work at the RAF base. She has already accompanied him on several Royal occasions but she won't be thrown into undertaking official Royal duties straight after her marriage as Princess Diana was.
