Emma Watson Biography
The first thing Emma Watson did when she finished playing Hermione in the last Harry Potter film was get her hair cut.
Inspired by Mia Farrow in "Rosemary's Baby," she had her famous shoulder length hair cropped. It was a mark of freedom that at last she was let off the leash that has bound her for the last 10 years. During that time, when she was under contract to the Harry Potter stable, she was forbidden from wearing make-up or getting her hair cut.
She now feels she has got her life back, and the world is her oyster. She has put her education before her acting career, and is in her second year studying at Browns University in America. She is making friends who do not care about her fame, and her best friend has never seen a Harry Potter movie, or read any of the books.
She even dated a man who did not know anything about films, let alone she was a film star, and she found that hilarious but refreshing.
It was a different story when she started there in September 2009, she was so homesick she could not speak to her mother for three months. "I would text them, but it was too hard to pick up the phone." She said.
She has no idea what she wants to do when she finishes university, she likes combining studying with acting, but she may not make it her full-time career. She was 10-years-old when she first got the part of Hermione, recommended by her drama teacher in Oxford, and it was her first professional role.
Watson was born in Paris on 15th April 1990 to Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both British lawyers, and she lived in Paris until she was 15-years-old. She moved to Oxfordshire with her mother and brother after her parents divorced.
From the age of 6-years-old she said she wanted to be an actress, and she trained at the Oxford branch of Stage Coast Theatre Arts. By the age of 10 she had performed in a number of their productions, and it was her teacher there who put her forward for the Harry Potter series of films.
She broke away from Harry Potter to play Pauline Fossil in the BBC Television adaptation of Noel Streatfield's book, "Ballet Shoes," which was broadcast on Boxing Day in 2007. She was also the voice behind Princess Pea in the animated film "The Tale of Despereaux," based on Kate Di Camillo's novel.
Watson has become interested in fashion, and in 2009 she received a six-figure fee for modelling the Burberry Autumn/Winter collection, a Spring/Summer 2010 Campaign followed, in which she appeared with her brother Alex.
It was on the Burberry photo-shoot she met her boyfriend 19-year-old George Craig, but they split up in August 2010 when she returned to study in America. They tried to make it work as a long distance relationship but agreed it was best to part, and she left for America in tears.
They are still good friends, but they both lead such busy lives it was impossible to keep the romance going. Watson describes herself as "a bit of a feminist," and likes her independence, saying she is still only 20.
