Emily Browning Biography
Australian actress Emily Browning learnt how to speak with an American accent by watching "Sesame Street" on television.
Born on 7th December 1988 she is a very sensible young lady who does not want to "burn out" as a young actress, and would like to go to college one day.
Despite beginning her career at 8-years-old after being noticed by a classmate's father in a school play, she took a break from acting to complete her education at Eltham High School, and in November 2006 she achieved her Victorian Certificate of Education.
She made her debut at 10-years-old on the Hallmark Channel in "Echo of Thunder" and this was followed by recurring parts in "Blue Heelers" in 2000 until 2002 and "Something in the Air" in 2000 and 2001.
In 2001 she played Billy Connolly's daughter in "The Man Who Sued God" and the same year she won an Australian Institute Award for Best Young Actress.
One of her best known roles was for playing Violet Baudelaire in the 2004 film "Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events" and Anna Ivers in the 2009 film "The Uninvited."
She won the coveted role of Violet after her agent gave her a pile of scripts so she could apply for video auditions and she was specifically invited to audition for the role by the director. She had to wear heels for the part as her co-star Liam Aiken was much taller than her.
Despite an endorsement from the "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer she turned down an invitation to audition for the part of Bella Swan in the "Twilight" movies.
Browning has won a number of awards. In 2005 she won an Australian Film Institute International Award for Best Actress for her role in "A Series of Unfortunate Events." She also won the award in 2002 and was nominated for the same award in 1999 and 2003.
She was nominated for the Broadcast Film Critics Association Critics Choice Award for Best Young Performer and Young Artist Awards for best performance in a feature film, and leading young actress in 2005.
Emily Browning is an independent young woman who has her nose and naval pierced. She had a dog called Roxy and cat called Jasper and misses her pets when she is away filming. She loves what she does and had a celebrity crush on Patrick Star.
In 2003 she starred opposite the late Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom in the film about the legendary Australian "Ned Kelly."
She also played the lead in the 2011 film of "Sleeping Beauty" and she played Baby Doll in Zack Snyder's film "Sucker Punch." She had to beach her hair platinum for the role and also sings in the film. It was shot in Vancouver and is due to be released on 25th March 2011. In 2013 she appeared in Magic Magic playing Sarah, God Help the Girl as Eve and Plush.
